Starting Homeschooling with Usborne Books & More
Updated: Sep 18, 2020
I know the times are still so uncertain, and many of us did not believe we would still be in this situation when all of this first started so long ago. So, it's kind of abrupt and scary feeling to be finding out that many schools have not worked out plans yet that every family can feel good about. The good news is that homeschooling is a fantastic option, even if it doesn't seem that way yet! I know it's not a viable solution for all families, but if it's an option for yours, I would love to help guide you through the beginning steps of getting started and acquiring your curriculum and supplementary materials.
Although I have a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education and maintained my teaching license for ten years, I only taught in a traditional public school for one year. After that, I got married, and we decided I would be a SAHM for a few years and then go back to work. Well, that never happened! Our oldest has an October birthday, so he went to a little preschool 3 days a week and I did Kindergarten with him at home the year that he was turning 5. He was so bright, and it seemed like the best thing to do. We decided to homeschool for another year or two to see us through a cross-country move, but we have never looked back. We have moved to two more states in the last ten years, while also working from home, and we have found that homeschooling fits our lifestyle and our ideals in every way. Our reasons for homeschooling and our goals for our family have changed many times over the years, and we have only become more firmly rooted in this path for our family.
This school year, I’ll have grades 8, 4, 2, a preschooler, and a toddler. It sounds intimidating, but I’m actually very excited to see how this year goes for each of my children. There is nothing better than being a witness to new knowledge and interests taking hold in your child’s mind. I have homeschooled while juggling a baby and toddler twice before, but with 3 children in different grades this time, it's sure to be quite the show. However, I'm going in with a positive attitude and expecting a delightful year overall!
Sunday, August 2nd at 9pm ET, I'm holding a Starting Homeschooling with Usborne Books & More info sesh and YOU ARE INVITED. I'm going to share encouragement, guidance, tips, and tools as you start down this path (or decide if this is the path for you). I'll also be there as a personal shopper to help you gather your materials for your school year.
